In an era where the custom motorcycle scene is bulging with ye olde worldy retro-styled finery, Australian custom builders Smoked Garage has produced an unlikely futuristic custom bike based around a 2015 Ducati 848 Streetfighter.

Dubbed the SG-848X, its most noticeable feature is the hydraulic struts fitted to lift both the seat and tank, and while neither component is particularly heavy or difficult to remove manually, a successful custom wouldn't be so if it wasn't for at least one 'because we can' design element.

As well as the hydraulic struts, or perhaps because of them, the SG-848X's trellis frame has been custom engineered and the alloy fairings are hand-made, while the futuristic LED lighting, grips and electronic instruments are all supplied by Motogadget.

In terms of running gear, it's all top-shelf names with Brembo brakes at both ends, Öhlins suspension and Metzeler tyres.
While it's true there are hints of retro-inspired styling – a genre the Brisbane-based company does a lot of, and rather well – the blend of then, a bit of now and a whole lot of future makes a refreshing change from the nostalgic genre currently saturating the custom scene.

If you love the concept, the folk at Smoked Garage can quote you on something similar – you can get in touch via its website, www.smokedgarage.com.au.
Hydraulically actuated sidestand, anyone?
