Meet Agostini at the Island!
Racing legend to attend Phillip Island Classic, where he will perform parade laps on an MV Agusta replica and spend time with his fansThe world’s most successful grand prix racer, Giacomo Agostini, will attend the 2013 International Island Classic, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary during the event which runs from January 25 to 27.
The 15-time world champion has described the invitation as an honour, revealing his Island Classic attendance is likely to be his last visit to Australia.
"I am very excited to visit Phillip Island again for the 20-year celebration of the Island Classic," Agostini said. "Phillip Island is a beautiful place with a circuit that I like very much. It has been a long time since my last visit and will probably be the last time for me to come to Australia."
The event will mark Agostini’s attendance with a special welcome dinner held at the circuit on Saturday, January 26. For the first time in the event’s history, the dinner will be open to the members of the public. Tickets for the event are on sale now, while tickets for the Saturday night dinner go on sale Monday, October 8 at $125 per person.
Agostini will perform parade laps of the picturesque circuit during the three-day event aboard an MV Agusta grand prix replica.
"I am very excited to be invited and am honoured to be one of the first to try the new racetrack surface," Agostini continued. "And I look forward to seeing and meeting all the motorcycle fans at the track and at the special dinner on Saturday night."
The circuit’s managing director Fergus Cameron said, "It goes without saying that we are humbled to have such a great man and great motorcycle racer visit us again. When we thought about making the 20-year celebration of this event a memorable one for all, we couldn’t go past Giacomo Agostini, who will be celebrating his 70th birthday. This is a great chance for motorcycle lovers to enjoy a truly world-class event with one of the best line-ups you are ever likely to see."
Attending the event has been made even more accessible for the 20th anniversary and race fans can cater their weekend to suit, ranging from a VIP Club Classic Package through to single or multiple General Admission options with camping also available.
