Maxwell flawless in Sydney

The Suzuki rider won four from four at Sydney Motorsport Park over the weekend to overtake Glenn Allerton in the battle for 2013 Australian Superbike title honours

Team Suzuki rider Wayne Maxwell capped off a perfect weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park with a superb double in today’s fifth round of the 2013 Australian Superbike Championship.

Maxwell won both 12-lap races to extend his lead in the championship to 24pts ahead of BMW’s Glenn Allerton.

“What a weekend,” Maxwell said. “To win all four races is the ultimate dream come true “The GSX-R1000 was incredible all weekend and handled extremely well. Full credit to the team for giving me such an awesome bike to ride this weekend.

“We have the championship lead but I am not going to get ahead of myself. We need to take it race by race.  If we are winning races the rest will come.”

Polesitter Robbie Bugden was second for the round, with Allerton bouncing back from a disappointing result in Saturday’s round four to round out the podium.

Team Honda riders Josh Hook and Jamie Stauffer were fourth and fifth, ahead of Sydney privateer Glenn Scott (Honda) who broke through for his first top three finish in today’s opening race.

The next round of the 2013 Australian Superbike Championship will be held at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway from September 12-15, which will also incorporate a round of the Australian Supercross Championship.
