Yamaha Racing Team’s Wayne Maxwell barnstormed his way into 2015 Australasian Superbike Championship contention after a dominating performance at Winton on Sunday, October 25, winning all three races.
With just one round to go, at Sydney Motorsport Park on December 4-5, Maxwell, the reigning champion, is level pegging with Team Honda's Troy Herfoss on 318pts, followed by Glenn Allerton (Yamaha, 292), Cru Halliday (Yamaha, 236) and Kawasaki's Mike Jones (228).
“I felt like we had been building over the last few outings but it just wasn’t coming together on the day,” Maxwell said. “The team has got the new bike running sensationally and I felt I let one get away at the last round so I was determined to make a statement here and get my championship defence back on track.
"This weekend I went extremely well and I was able to qualify well and then take that into every race over the weekend. Winning all three races was the boost the team needed and the reward they deserved for what has been a really busy period and with just 1pt between myself and Troy as well as Glenn still well in the title fight, it’s going to be an exciting final round."
Allerton was second overall at Winton with 2-3-3 results, followed by Herfoss (5-2-2), Halliday (3-6-6) and Team Honda's Jamie Stauffer (6-4-6).
In supersport, Michael Blair (Yamaha) won two of the three races to win the overall from Callum Spriggs (Yamaha) and Brayden Elliot (Suzuki). Elliot leads Spriggs by 1pt with a round to go.
