Maxwell does the business at Winton

Overall victory in round four of the 2014 Australasian Superbike Championship at the Victorian venue, and moves into the overall lead ahead of Jamie Stauffer

Team Honda Racing’s Wayne Maxwell has claimed overall honours in round four of the 2014 Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship at Winton (Vic) on September 3.

Maxwell scored a win and two seconds from the three races – as well as a new lap record of 1:22.287 --  and also move into the championship lead the expense of teammate Jamie Stauffer, who was only seventh overall with 7-5-7 results after struggling with an ankle injury picked up at last weekend’s Suzuka 8-hour world endurance race.

The other two members of the Team Honda Racing outfit, Josh Hook (5-2-3) and Troy Herfoss (1-17-1), were second at third overall at Winton, with Herfoss’ card blighted by a crash in the dying stages of race two.

“I am really happy with the consistent day,” said Maxwell. “We tried quite a few things during the day which we normally don’t do during a race meeting, but we did this weekend and we’re getting there slowly but surely.

“We can run at the front and we’ve been pretty consistent all year so we’ll just keep chipping away.  We have a little bit of a points lead now, but there is still a long way to go.

“Everyone has their rounds and as I said there’s a long way to go, so we’ll keep trying to attack and win races and take it from there.”
In the overall championships standings, Maxwell holds a 14-point lead from Stauffer, with Herfoss a further 24 points behind in third and Allerton another nine points back in fourth.

In supersport, Aaron Morris recorded two race wins and a second placing to hold out  Aiden Wagner (2-1-2) and Callum Spriggs (3-3-3), the trio all Yamaha mounted.
