Wayne Maxwell and Jamie Stauffer will compete under the Team Honda Racing banner in the 2011 Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship (ASC).
Maxwell is no stranger to the Motologic-run Honda factory team, having been an incumbent in 2008 and 2009 before joining the privateer ranks in 2010 – but still on a CBR1000RR.
Maxwell finished second in the 2010 Aussie championship behind brand-mate Bryan Staring, and was third in 2009.
And he recently allied with great mate Josh Brooks to win the Australian Endurance Championship at Phillip Island, it what was Team Honda Racing’s official reintroduction to local racing after a one-year sabbatical.
“I am really excited to join Team Honda Racing and their partners for the 2011 ASBK championship,” said Maxwell.
“This will be my third season under the management of the Motologic-based team and I look forward to being part of a very competitive factory-backed Honda team. Having a multiple Australian champion as my team-mate is an honour and a great benchmark for me.”
Stauffer is a multiple Australian champion in both the Supersport (2006/2008) and Superbike (2006-2007) categories, and he ran under the Ducati Motologic banner in 2010, ending the season in searing form after a run of bad luck.
But the Ducati Superbike is now for sale and Stauffer will be on a Honda in 2011, after previously racing four-cylinder machines for the Kawasaki and Yamaha factory teams in Australia.
“It was good to work with… Motologic in 2010 and to be working with them again is fantastic,” said Stauffer.
“To get this opportunity with Honda and Motologic is very exciting. I know I will have a great motorcycle to compete on, and I can be sure that we will be competitive from the first time we roll the CBR1000RR onto the track.”
Honda is the first factory team to announce its full rider line-up for 2011, with Suzuki and Yamaha (if it returns to the ASC from the rival Formula Xtreme series) yet to go public with their rosters.
