Sam Masters will replace Aussie countryman Jason Doyle in the 16-rider field in the final round of the 2016 Speedway Grand Prix series at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium on Saturday, October 22.
Coming off three wins in a row – which had delivered him the world championship lead – Doyle sustained season-ending lung, elbow and shoulder injuries at the penultimate round in Poland on October 1, which opened the door for Masters to compete in Melbourne as the first reserve.
Masters, who was a wildcard at the inaugural Etihad Stadium round in 2015, will ride alongside compatriots Brady Kurtz (the 2016 wildcard) and 2012 world champion Chris Holder in Melbourne.

With Doyle out of the picture, American Greg Hancock effectively takes a 19pt lead into Melbourne over reigning world champion Tai Woffinden. And ominously, Hancock swept through last year's round at Etihad Stadium undefeated.
