Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) is now the most successful rider in world superbike (WorldSBK) history at the Laguna Seca circuit after he won both races at the Californian venue on June 23-24.
Rea defeated polesitter Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) in the two 25-lap races – held under a blazing California sun around the 3.61km circuit – while the third places were shared by Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha) and Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia).

“An incredible weekend. I expected to be strong here but I had no idea how strong,” said Rea.
“Two weekends in a row now, Brno and here, we have been the reference. Weekends like that do not happen all the time so we have to really absorb it and enjoy the moment.
“A double win at Laguna in the sunshine – it does not get much better. There are so many people out around the track. A massive thanks to all my crew, especially Pere because even though we won yesterday with a margin, last night he changed the bike completely and gave me some more confidence in the front. It worked a dream.
“It was one of those races where I could absorb what was happening, the crowd, the weather, where I was; it really was an incredible race.”

Other top five finishers a Laguna Seca were Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha) and Marco Melandri.
Rea has now moved along to 320pts atop the WorldSBK standings, ahead of Davies (245), van der Mark (215), Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team, 196) and Lowes (183).
The next round will be held at Misano, San Marino, from July 6-8.
