Preparations are well underway for Triumph's tilt at the World Motorcycle Land Speed Record, with British rider Guy Martin recently completing his first hit out in the Triumph Infor Rocket Streamliner on the salt flats at Bonneville, Utah, USA.
After a low-speed familiarisation run with outriggers in place Martin was ready for his first powered run when a mechanical issue brought proceedings to a halt.
After the fault was rectified, the fourth day on the salt saw Martin complete a seven-mile run with outriggers, followed by his first powered run.
That run saw Martin fire the streamliner's twin Triumph Rocket III engines and pull away from the chasing pack of vehicles, attaining a speed of 95mph (152km/h).
An increasing breeze thwarted any subsequent testing, but Martin says he is eagerly looking forward to further runs – and a chance to seize the World Motorcycle Land Speed Record – later this week.
The current World Motorcycle Land Speed Record stands at 376.373mph (602.197km/h), and was set in 2010 by the Top Oil Ack Attack Streamliner using a pair of Suzuki engines.
More to come…
