The Marquez brothers have ended their contract with Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Apparel, the company licensed to produce and distribute Marc and Alex’s official merchandise.
Though rumoured for some time, the split was confirmed yesterday when Marc Marquez’ management company, Alzamora Communications, released an official press release.
“AC Management, company in charge of managing the image rights of the riders Marc Márquez and Alex Márquez, informs that they have agreed with the Company VR46 Racing Apparel, S.r.l. to terminate the license agreements previously in force and under which the latter was in charge of the exploitation of both riders’ merchandising,” the statement read.
The termination is a knock-on from the controversial Sepang clash which ultimately cost Valentino Rossi the chance to win the 2015 MotoGP World Championship.
VR46 Apparel has licensing deals with many big names of MotoGP including Kevin Schwantz, Cal Crutchlow, Alvaro Bautista, Dani Pedrosa, Jack Miller and Pol Espargaro.
