Marmont takes out 2011 Manjimup 15,000

One of the toughest events on the Australian calendar, the Manjimup 15,000 has been won a record-equalling three times by Jay Marmont

Australian MX rider Jay Marmont has added another trophy to his pool room after taking the top spot at the 2011 Manjimup 15,000, his third win in the event.

The gruelling race series takes place in Western Australia every year, south of Perth, and makes its way around the tight 1.81km Cosy Creek course.

"I love racing at this event," Marmont said after a tough day's racing. "The track is easily one of the best in Australia, the club do a great job promoting it and there is always a good atmosphere here.

"Winning an event like this is just what I needed to get my season back on track and get some momentum going my way in the MX Nationals," added Marmont.

"I now head back to Queensland where I'm going to race at a local event up there before heading to Coonabarbran for round six of the MX Nationals."

The tree time Australian MX champion was riding for the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team, who's manager, Craig Dack, is the only other person to have won three Manjimup 15,000 events.

Marmont has his work cut out for him, with a handful of experienced international competitors that included the UK's Bryan Mackenzie and Jamie Law, the USA's Bryce Vallee and Michael Phillips from New Zealand as well as a host of East Coast and local riders who were intent and adding their name to the trophy.

The victory came after Jay Marmont racked up three race wins in the event, including the all-important double points final race, and a second place to take the victory on the day, 13 points clear of UK rider Bryan Mackenzie.

Arguably one of the toughest and most challenging events in Australia, the Manjimup 15,000 often takes its toll on riders during a four moto shootout on what is sometimes referred to as one of the hardest tracks in the country to master.
