MotoGP star Marc Marquez has signed a four-year contract extension, keeping him on the Honda factory team until at least December 2024.
The eight-time world champion has claimed 56 victories, 95 podiums and 62 pole positions aboard his RC213V machine in the premier class.
The Spaniard won his eighth world title and his sixth in the MotoGP class in 2019. In 2020 he will be joined in the top flight by his brother Alex. Alex won the Moto2 world title in 2019 and has stepped up to partner with his brother on the Repsol Honda team, replacing Jorge Lorenzo.
Honda started talking to Marc several months ago about a new deal and the company is pleased it was able to keep its superstar rider.
“As a unique champion, Marc deserves a unique deal,” said HRC President, Yoshishige Nomura. “I am very confident in this partnership and I wish everyone involved continued success.”
Marquez was equally excited about the deal. “Since the first year we have achieved success together I am very happy to continue being part of the Honda family,” he said. “HRC gives me the confidence to extend this partnership to obtain our common goal and continue our story of success.”
The 2020 MotoGP season kicks off at the Losail circuit in Qatar on March 8.
