The ever-popular Yamaha MT-07 has been given a major overhaul for 2025, including new tech, a revised chassis, and a fresh new look.
First introduced in 2014, the MT-07 naked bike has been a hit in both LAMS and full-power guises ever since, however Yamaha has opted not to rest on its laurels.
Checking in at $14,899 ride away for both the LA (Learner Approved) and HO (High Output) variants, the new MT-07 will be available from December 2024 in three colourways – Ice Storm, Icon Blue, and Tech Black.
At the top of the list of changes is a new ride-by-wire throttle, or YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle). This allows for customisable riding modes and adjustable traction control – features that were previously only available on larger MT models. The bike also comes with a new slipper clutch and auto-cancelling indicators.
Complimenting the new electronics is an updated 5-inch colour TFT dash with smartphone connectivity and navigation.
The MT-07 also features an all-new design including fresh bodywork, a redesigned LED headlight, a revised riding position for sportier riding, and a new two-piece seat.
Suspension is also updated with a new 41mm inverted fork at the front, and an optimised shock and linkage at the rear. Dual four-piston radially-mounted brake calipers have also been added to the MT-07 for the first time.
The MT-07 chassis has been heavily modified for increased strength and rigidity, improved handling, and to accommodate the new technology, while new wheels and tyres help keep weight down.
Despite all the new features, the new MT-07 weighs 1kg less than the previous generation, tipping the scales at just 183kg full of fuel.
Underneath the hood is the same 690cc CP2 parallel-twin engine that has proved a winner, but Yamaha has worked on getting it to produce a better note by way of an innovative acoustic sound amplifying system. Making those pianos has finally paid off.
