Magee all set for 2012 APC Rally

The 2012 APC Rally kicks off this Saturday, and among its participants will be former GP racer Kevin Magee, aboard a specially-prepared Triumph Tiger 800 XC

Participants are counting down the hours to the start of this year's APC Rally, which kicks off on Saturday, July 28. Among the many riders who have signed up for the gruelling adventure ride will be former GP racer and now media personality Kevin Magee, who will be riding a Triumph Tiger 800 XC (pictured) that's been kitted out to handle the worst the arduous 7100km course can dish out.

Particularly prominent on Magee's Tiger is the translucent 30lt Safari long-range fuel tank, while a SPOT Tracker GPS tracking device has also been fitted, so organisers can monitor Magee's (and other participants') progress over the event's 14 days.
Magee will be setting out from the Victorian/NSW border town of Wodonga on Saturday, before following a meandering route along the spine of the Great Dividing Range through NSW and into Queensland, then turning west from the hamlet of Woodenbong for the challenge of the outback. The route then loops through SA and back into Victoria, where Magee will undoubtedly be pleased to receive his Tony Kirby completion medal.
Making the journey all the harder will be the fact that riders must carry all their own camping gear -- there are no designated night stops so riders can go at their own pace, but they'll need to return to their starting point within 14 days to have successfully completed the rally. Riding may only take place between 7.30am each morning and 6.00pm each night.
There are a total of seven start/finish points on the 7100km loop, so participants will be spread out over the event's duration. Riders will use a pre-loaded GPS map to navigate their way around the course.
Triumph Australia will be monitoring Magee's progress closely over the two weeks of the event, and will be posting regular updates on its facebook page at www.facebook.com/trumphaustralia. Click here for more information on the 2012 APC Rally.
