The last time Australian high flyer Robbie Maddison was at Calder Park in Melbourne, he set a new world record for a long distance motorcycle jump -- a massive 107m leap, 9m more than he had achieved the previous New Year's Eve in Las Vegas.
Yesterday, Maddison returned to Calder Park, but this time his in quite a different setting - squashing cars in a Monster Truck.
Maddison was joined by former AFL great Wayne Carey (no, they didn't go out partying afterwards) in a promotional event ahead of this weekend's World Series of Monster Trucks event at the same venue.
Carey drove the $350,000 "Samson" at Calder Park, while Maddison was in the $280,000 "Raptor". And yes, there is a "Thunda" racing on Saturday night, as well as a "Devil". Can you imagine monster truck owners calling their rigs "Kitty" or "Button cheeks"? They'd be banished form the paddock and sent to a 're-education' facility.
Anyway, Maddo and Carey hammed it up for the cameras, so there's another high-tempo activity that Maddo can tick off his list of achievements. And he's already gone on record as saying that he'd eventually like to pursue a V8 Supercars career, so standby for some movements on that front.
