Maddo does the deed

But with 10 stitches to show for it

January 5, 2009

Aussie Robbie Maddison has completed his New Year's Eve leap and dismount from the replica Arc de Triomphe in Las Vegas, and with only minimal damage to show for it.

The former Kiama (NSW) lad landed perfectly on top of the Arc, but was a bit untidy on the freefall, ripping apart the webbing between his thumb and index finger, which required 10 stitches.

"I really wanted to celebrate after the jump, but first I had to spend half the night at hospital getting the stiches," Maddison told Melbourne radio station, 3AW. "However, the jump went really well, and the crowd was unbelievable."

And, finally, what were Robbie's thoughts on Robbie Knievel -- one of the four siblings of the late Evil Knievel -- who was attempting to jump over the volcano at the Mirage at the same time?

"He's a joke," was the blunt reply.

For the record, those on the scene say Robbie jumped next to the spewing fireball, and not over it. We now look forward to this year's New Year's Eve…
