MA's roadside package gets a boost

Motorcycling Australia's revised roadside assistance package addresses issues found in previous scheme, which promised servicing but didn't deliver

Australian car drivers have had the reassurance of roadside assistance programs for years, covering the vehicle's transport should anything go wrong, towing it or replacing fuel and basically providing peace of mind.

Motorcyclists have had similar schemes available to them, but now Motorcycling Australia (MA) has made a few clarifications to its member benefits program to avoid confusion, with many members told that repairs would be part of the package.

"On behalf of MA I would like to sincerely apologise if this has caused any inconvenience or confusion and would like to point out that this has nothing to do with any fault on the part of the transport company whose number was supplied," said the CEO of MA, David White

The revised roadside assistance package is available to all existing members at no extra cost, while new members (or those renewing) will incur a $39 fee.

MA's new roadside assistance program will cover:

• Breakdown towing service from location of break-down to a storage/repair point or your home – whichever is closest (up to 50km)
• Both metro and country included
• Two call outs per year
• Jump start
• Up to five litres of fuel
• No age limits on the motorcycle
• Members can nominate as many bikes as they own

"We understand that some of our members may have joined the Riders’ Division assuming they were receiving this level of coverage, and now we are aware of what it actually entailed, this new assistance program has been developed. At present all the member benefits are currently being reviewed to ensure accuracy and genuine benefit to members," added White.

"Some previous advertising from the Riders’ Division intimated that membership provided mechanical work as part of Roadside Rescue Coverage. This is not the case and we feel it would be wrong to let this continue without clarification."

The roadside assistance program covers every single motorcycle that a particular member owns, and current members are being asked to provide the MA Riders' Division with the details of all of their bikes, which can be done by emailing the following to MA: Name, member number, and vehicle details, which includes the make, model, year and registration number, to: membership@ma.org.au.
