MA drops contentious ASC testing restrictions

Will be reviewed for 2010

January 17, 2009

Motorcycling Australia (MA) has avoided a potential imbroglio by declaring it will omit an item out of this year's Australian Superbike Championship (ASC) regulations relating to restrictions on testing, and subsequent heavy fines for breaches of the rule.

In the original supplementary regulations released on January 9, a number of conditions were placed on testing during the 2009 ASC, and trangressions carried a possible loss of all championship points, and monetary sanctions -- $10,000 for teams and $4000 for individual riders.

Following a groundswell of discontent, MA promptly issued a media release yesterday announcing the rule has now been suspended for 2009, but it will be back on the agenda in 2010.

The release from MA said: "The original intent of item 49 was to reduce costs for all competitors, both factory and privateer riders alike, and was not aimed at restricting competitors taking part in other events in any way."
