Reigning MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo looks odds-on to become a Ducati rider for the 2017 and 2018 MotoGP seasons, according to a report in well-connected British weekly MCN.
The magazine isn't the first to mull over the 'will he or won't he' question, and others like racing legend Giacomo Agostini have also had their say, but it now appears inevitable that 28-year-old Lorenzo will switch camps and end his long partnership with Yamaha in MotoGP, which dates back to 2008.
MCN says the deal with Ducati is at the verbal stage, and that there will be an official announcement of the new two-year collaboration when the championship returns to Europe at Jerez in three weeks' time.
Lorenzo's current teammate Valentino Rossi was a Ducati factory rider, but after struggling for two years (2011-2012) he returned to the safe haven of Yamaha.
If Lorenzo signs for Ducati, either Andrea Dovizioso or Andrea Iannone would have to make way for the Mallorcan superstar.
