As far as celebrated returns go, it was one of the more inglorious. Everything was initiaaly going swimmingly for Jorge Lorenzo in his hometown of Palma, Majorca last week, as the now three-time MotoGP champion was riding a YZF-R1 down the street, surrounded by a large number of supporters.
Then it all went south when a coolant hose ruptured while Lorenzo was revving the engine, and the hot liquid and steam gushed from the bike. The 2015 MotoGP champion jumped from the R1 — which stayed upright thanks to bystanders — and then made his way to a local hospital for treatment by a 'real' doctor — not his teammate Valentino Rossi…
Lorenzo's burns aren’t severe though, but it could have been a very nasty incident indeed.
The video below was captured by a bystander.
