Lorenzo races Fiat 500 - on two-wheels

Jorge Lorenzo has shown he's got as much speed on four wheels as on two, with a podium finish in a 500km endurance event

It's true that motorcyclists make excellent drivers - another case in point being 2010 MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo's recent success behind the wheel of a Fiat 500 Abarth Assetto Corse.

The high powered supermini car was driven (at times on two-wheels) by Lorenzo in the 500 Kilómetros de Alcañiz event for the Difisa Racing team, which took place at the Motorland Aragón circuit in Spain.

Lorenzo finished second place in the D5 category, and was participating in the event as a guest of honour alongside F1 drive Jaime Alguersuari, who was in the faster D1 category and finished fourth overall.

The 23-year old  Jorge Lorenzo drove in the Montmeló event the previous month and has been very active in four-wheeled racing since the MotoGP season ended.

Heaping praise on Lorenzo's driving style, the team director of the Difisa Racing team Salvador Espinal said: "Jorge’s development since his first drive at the Catalunya Circuit has been rapid. He’s learnt very quickly and has displayed a high level of concentration, and that’s why he is a World Champion.

"He’s learnt to take corner exits at high speed here, and this has resulted in his final position which placed him up there with some very fast drivers. Also to work with someone like Jorge is a great experience for the whole team," enthused Espinal.
