Suzuki’s V-Strom line-up has been increased to four different models with the release of the V-Strom 650XT Cross-Touring joining the already successful V-Strom 1000, 650 ABS and 650 ABS LAMS version.
The new V-Strom 650XT (itself also available in a learner-approved edition) runs the same basic chassis platform as the 650 ABS but comes with spoked D.I.D wheels for more off-road capability and styling stripped off the bigger brother V-Strom 1000 ABS, including the distinctive ‘beak’ front guard system taking off the firm’s legendary Dakar models of the 1980s.
The 650XT still utilises the same DOHC, 645cc twin-cylinder engine as the 650 ABS, although the learner-approved machine will be restricted to 35kW to ensure it meets the power reduction limit.
The LAMS 650XT (available in Pearl White) retails for a competitive $10,990, while the full power unit (available in Matte Grey and Pearl White) will set you back $11,490. Both models have a full two-year, unlimited kilometer warranty.
Can Suzuki match the king of the mid-sized adventure market in the BMW F 650 GS? Or even top its own best-selling adventure machine in the ever-dependable DR650?
