The brand currently runs an air-cooled variants of the Sportster V-twin, which claim a little over 100 horses in 1200 form. However to remain competitive in the performance world, more power and liquid cooling are seemingly inevitable.
Harley produced am liquid-cooled twin in consultation with Porsche many years ago, and raced the machine (called the VR1000). That engine subsequently made it into a limited-edition sport bike and is the basis of the current V-Rod cruiser series. In theory that engine would need some fairly major surgery (if not a complete redesign) as it is too big and heavy to suit the Buell chassis.
The launch is expected in August.
