The 2022 Yamaha XSR900 has been given a major overhaul, with the new machine taking inspiration from the recently-updated MT-09.
Retaining its neo-retro style, the new 2022 Yamaha XSR900 adopts a Deltabox-style aluminium frame, a new electronic suite, and improved engine performance.
Introduced six years ago as a retro version of the Yamaha MT-09 streetfighter, the XSR900 has been a popular model for the Japanese firm, and the latest update ensures it will remain competitive.

At the top of the list of changes is an overhauled chassis, including the new CF die-cast Deltabox frame, which Yamaha says is lighter, stronger and sharper. The new frame is also a throwback to Yamaha models of the 1980s – a further boost to the XSR900’s heritage credentials.
The 889cc CP3 engine has also been updated, packing an extra 43cc, and well as getting a boost in both power and torque. Power is up to 87.5kW at 1000rpm, while peak torque improves to 93Nm at 7000rpm – a significant improvement over the previous model. The refreshed engine is also lighter.
Also new is the 6-axis IMU and comprehensive electronic suite which includes lean sensitive traction control, slide control, and wheel lift control. There are also four ride modes, ABS, a quickshifter, ride-by-wire, cruise control, and new 3.5-inch colour TFT display as standard.
Elsewhere, the 2022 XSR900 features lighter 10-spoke aluminium wheels, a round retro LED headlight, a lighter-feeling A&S clutch, an optimised 6-speed gearbox and heritage-inspired colour schemes and aesthetic details.
Local pricing and arrival dates are yet to be announced, but the new 2022 Yamaha XSR900 is expected to be available worldwide from February 2022.
