The new 2022 Honda CRF250R has been revealed with a host of engine and chassis upgrades that have resulted in increased power, reduced weight, and improved reliability.
Using the same platform as the bike raced by Australian HRC factory riders Hunter and Jett Lawrence, the redesigned 2022 Honda CRF250R follows in the footsteps of the updated CRF450R that was released in 2020.

Headlining the changes is an overhauled engine that produces more low-rpm torque without sacrificing usable top-end power. The 249cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine features a modified air intake, revised valve timing, and a straightened exhaust port with single exhaust header and muffler. Together, the changes apparently deliver a 20% increase in power at 6500rpm.
The chassis has also been upgraded and borrows heavily from the latest-generation CRF450R. The redesigned frame features optimized flex characteristics, with lateral rigidity reduced by 20%, while the modern bodywork facilitates rider movement and is more-easily removed.
As a result of the chassis updates, the CRF250R offers reliable tracking, precise turning, exemplary straight-line stability, and improved ride ability. It also contributes to a 4kg weight reduction.
Other areas that have been improved include the clutch (with a new nine-plate design), radiator and shrouds, and the air box (with increased capacity and a new air filter shape).
Australia’s own Hunter and Jett Lawrence have featured prominently in the 2021 AMA Pro Motocross series aboard the Honda CRF250R, and now riders across the world can pilot similar machinery. The new Honda CRF250R checks in at $12,199 and will be available locally from September 2021.
