Australian brothers Jett and Hunter Lawrence achieved a historic 1-2 result in their first 450 class motocross together at Pala Raceway in California.
Jett continued his dominant form, winning both motos to extend his winning streak in outdoor racing to 24. It comes just two weeks after he claimed the 2024 AMA Supercross title in Salt Lake City.
The opening moto saw the Honda-mounted Lawrence brothers race to an early lead, but KTM’s Aaron Plessinger eventually passed Hunter for second. Hunter took second place back later in the race, with the brothers finishing 1-2.
Hunter grabbed the holeshot in the second moto, but Jett eventually found his way past for the lead. Phil Nicoletti (Yamaha) put up a good fight, but it was KTM’s Chase Sexton who proved to be the most problematic.
Sexton passed Hunter for second and put pressure on Jett, but a small mistake saw the young Australian pull away. Sexton made up ground again, but it wasn’t enough as Jett crossed the line for his 24th win. Hunter finished third.
The result meant that the Lawrence brothers graced the top two steps of the podium in their first 450 class motocross race together.
Jett is looking to defend his 2023 Pro Motocross title, which he achieved after a “perfect season”. Winning 22 out of 22 motos, Jett became only the third rider to achieve such a feat after James Steward and Ricky Carmichael.
