Lawrence brothers dominate 2021 AMA Supercross finale

The Lawrence brothers from Australia once again turned heads with a stellar performance in Salt Lake City

Australian’s Jett and Hunter Lawrence have reaffirmed their status as future superstars, with a dominant combined performance at the final race of the 2021 AMA Supercross Championship.

The HRC Honda brothers, who hail from Queensland, finished on the podium in the combined 250SX East/West Shootout – their only chance this year to compete against each other in AMA Supercross.

Jett took the Main Event win at Salt Lake City to finish 3rd in the 250 East championship behind Colt Nichols, while older brother Hunter finished third for a 2nd place overall in the 250 West championship behind Justin Cooper.

While the 250 East and West classes are raced separately for the majority of the series, the Shootout brings them together for an all-in season finale, with riders earning points for their respective championships.

Both Nichols and Cooper only needed a few points heading into the final race, meaning the Lawrence’s had nothing to lose.

Jett forced his way to the front, while Hunter had a little more work to do after an early crash. Hunter eventually recovered to finish third behind Jett and Nichols. It is apparently the first time in history that brothers have stood on the AMA Supercross podium together.

Meanwhile, in the 450SX Main Event, KTM’s Cooper Webb won to secure his second AMA Supercross title ahead of Honda’s Ken Roczen and Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac.

Webb was dominant in the series finale, beating teammate Marvin Musquin and Honda’s Chase Sexton across the line. Tomac and Roczen gave up all hope of snatching the title with lacklustre results in the final race.

The riders will now get a break before the opening round of the 2021 Pro Motocross Championship at Fox Raceway (AKA Pala) on May 30.
