American KTM rider PJ Larsen is the 2010 Australasian Pro Lites champion, having been officially declared the winner over Suzuki’s Matt Moss after an investigation by Motorcycling Australia. At least that's what we thought this morning...
Here's what's transpired. According to MA, a mistake was made in the compilation of results at the final round in Brisbane when Moss was awarded points despite completing less than 75 per cent of one of the races -- as per MA competition rules.
That error has now been rectified, which left Larsen completing the championship on 310pts, ahead of Moss (306) -- confirmed in a media release from MA this morning.
But we've just got word that Suzuki is appealing the decision and, and in accordance with MA's Manual of Motorcycle Sport, the results are provisional pending the outcome of the appeal process.
The appeal process will commence immediately, however owing to the holiday period it's unlikely the situation will be resolved until the New Year -- well after the cessation of formal hostilities in early December.
If the appeal is unsuccessful, Larsen will have snapped Moss’ two-year reign in the Pro Lites class.
Moreover, it will also make for an American double in 2010, with Kawasaki’s Josh Hansen easily winning the Pro Open class.
