Kymco Myroad scooter heading to Oz

700cc of parallel twin power

Kymco Australia has confirmed that its new 700cc maxi scooter, the Myroad, will go on sale locally in the second quarter of 2010.

The MyRoad was unveiled at the Tokyo motor show last month, featuring powerful triple headlights, a keyless starting system, electronically adjustable rear suspension (via a handlebar-mounted switch), a massive 280mm front disc, ABS, masses of underseat storage, and LED tail lamp.

The functionality continues with a quality double cradle frame, 15 (front) and 14 (back) inch rubber mated to multi-spoke cast alloy wheels, and a spacious two-tier seat. Sportstouring anyone?

Styling is quite angular, with a massive muffler completing the muscular package.

At 700cc, the Myroad will be the largest capacity scooter available in Australia, taking over the mantle from Suzuki's Burgman 650 Executive.

Kymco quotes 60hp and 63Nm for the long-stroke liquid-cooled parallel twin, which has it nipping on the heels of Gilera's V-twin GP800 in the performance stakes. The GP 800 isn't sold in Australia.

Weight is 265kg dry for the Myroad, for a respectable power-to-weight ratio of 0.22hp/kg.

A local price for the Myroad is still to be announced.

Kymco's stand was positively bursting at the seams in Tokyo, and also included a range of scooters between 50-300cc (a whopping 16 of them new models!) and the Maxxer 450i ATV, the first four-wheeler from the Taiwanese company with fuel injection. That should make for some serious trailriding fun.

There is now also a naked version of the Quannan 125, the latter of which the Bikesales Network will be testing in coming weeks.
