According to autoevolution.com, Taiwanese marque Kymco – imported into Australia by the Melbourne-based Mojo Motorcycles – could be about to expand its scooter and small-sized motorcycle range to include bigger naked machines.
The attached patent drawing shows what may be on the table, with styling and rear suspension heavily based on the Kawasaki ER-6n and an engine almost identical as the Japanese fare – which would mean capability in the vicinity of 71hp and 64Nm.
There are some differences between the Kymco and ER-Rn – at this stage – such as the upper frame, brakes, fairing and front suspension.
Kawasaki and Kymco have collaborated before, so what we're telling you is no surprise.
The Kymco patent has been filed in Europe, which as autoeveolution points out would mean a Euro4 compliant engine and antilock braking as standard.
Would the bike come to Australia? Mojo Motorcycles already has the CFMoto 650NK on its books at a great price (standby for a full Bikesales video and review), so there could potentially be some cannibalisation between the two marques on the premise that the Kymco would be in a similar cost bracket – but it's all speculation at this stage.
In the meantime, Kymco will continue with its range of scooters, ATVs and side-by-side machines in Australia, and you can check out the range here. Bikesales will be riding the updated Downtown 350i scooter in coming weeks.
