Kymco AK550 maxi scooter

An impending arrival in Oz, powered by a 550cc twin-cylinder EFI engine

Kymco Australia is about to launch its new flagship maxi scooter, the AK550.

Priced at $11,990 plus on-roads and due on dealer floors in December 2017, the AK550 is equipped with an interactive dash which connects the rider’s smartphone to the scooter providing on-board notifications, smart navigation options and customisable dash display options. They can then share it through a ‘cloud’.

The AK550 has charging ports, an aluminium frame, hollow 15-inch aluminium wheels, twin Brembo calipers on dual 280mm floating discs up front, and Bosch 9.1 ABS. Power is from a 550cc twin-cylinder engine delivering 53hp (39.9kW). There are two power modes.

Suspension consists of a 41mm upside-down front fork and a three-stage ‘reducer technology’ on the rear which claims to ‘unweight’ the engine from the transmission to reduce unsprung weight.

The LED-lit AK550 will be available in the single livery – Space Grey, supported by a three-year factory warranty.
