KTM is teasing an all-new dirt-focused adventure motorcycle complete with an semi-automatic transmission to rival Honda’s DCT.
Dubbed the KTM AMT, the prototype machine was put through its paces by Johnny Aubert at the Prolouge of the infamous Erzbergrodeo.
While details are scarce, the AMT is likely based on what will become KTM’s 1390 Super Adventure platform.
A video posted to KTM’s social media channels shows the AMT in action, however the black and white camouflage bodywork avoids giving too much away.
Still, eagle-eyed viewers will notice a few interesting details, most notably the lack of a clutch lever. The bike still has a foot-operated gearshift lever, as well as bar-mounted buttons that could potentially offer an up and down shifting function.
It has been rumoured for some time that KTM is working on a semi-automatic transmission to rival Honda’s DCT system, and the new AMT teaser seemingly confirms those rumours.
Also notable is the vertically mounted TFT screen which appears to be a lot larger than those of previous KTM models.
The KTM AMT also appears to have a strong off-road focus, with a low windshield, a high front fender, and a one-piece rally-style seat. The video also shows Aubert pushing the bike hard through Erzberg’s technical terrain.
KTM is yet to reveal any information about its next-generation adventure platform, although the release the 1390 Super Duke R means a 1390 replacement for the current 1290 Super Adventure R is likely on its way.
The new 1390 Super Duke R engine comes complete with a variable valve timing system similar to BMW’s ShiftCam. KTM’s next adventure models will likely use the same platform as the Super Duke.
Some international media outlets have spied KTM prototypes, with Cycle World suggesting there will be an off-road focused 1390 Rally, as well as a 1390 Super Adventure S.
