Austrian maker KTM has just released its long-awaited RC8 'superbike' -- an 1190 V-twin that claims an impressive 155 horses from a package which the engineers say weighs a very respectable 200 kilos with a full fuel tank.
There's little doubt it will turn out to be lively package and now we're waiting to hear if the factory will bite the proverbial bullet and enter the machine in the world superbike championships.
It's clearly targeted at the class -- which this year announced that V-twins could run a max 1200cc engine capacity versus 1000cc for four-cylinder bikes.
One real surprise with the machine is just how faithful it is to the original styling studies that were released more than a couple of years ago.
Usually factories go a little wild with the original studies and then back it off a few notches when it comes to the production model -- however that doesn't seem to be the case when it comes to the RC8's severaly angular lines.
"We have proven that KTM is capable of pushing through its own model strategy and, in doing so, being absolutely true to our clear brand philosophy, also on the road,” said KTM CEO Stefan Pierer at the Milan Show launch.
