KTM’s 790 Adventure range is due in Australia in June 2019 with a starting price of $21,195 rideaway.
The base model is marketed as an adventure tourer, while the $1500 more expensive Adventure R is for riders who go to the extremes.
As such, the Adventure uses WP 43mm upside-down forks and an Apex shock with 200mm of travel and runs on Avon Trailrider tyres; the Adventure R is fitted with WP 48mm Xplor forks and shocks with 240mm of travel and it rides on Metzeler Karoo 3 rubber designed for off-road performance.
Both machines use a steering damper, run twin 320mm front disk brakes with four-piston calipers and a 260mm rear stopper with twin-piston caliper. They also share the 189kg claimed weight.
The 799 twin-cylinder engine pumps out 94hp (70kW using a ride-by-wire throttle. Riding aids include traction control, cornering ABS, off-road ABS and an off-road ride mode. A more customisable Rally mode is standard on the R and can be specified as an option on the Adventure, along with the likes of a quickshifter and cruise control.
LED lights all round ensure you’re lit up at night and the 20-litre fuel tank ensures plenty of range.
The bikes will join the rest of the 2019 Adventure line-up:
• 690 Enduro R $17,595;
• 1090 Adventure R $24,295;
• 1290 Super Adventure S $28,395; and
• 1290 Super Adventure R is $29,195.
All prices are rideaway.
