The all-new KTM 390 Adventure will soon be let loose on the world, with the international media launch due to take place in early March.
KTM has used the engine from the 390 Duke for this new machine, which fills the gap below the successful 790 Adventure and 790 Adventure R.
With a range that already includes the 790 Adventure, 1090 Adventure and 1290 Super Adventure, the new 390 Adventure gives punters an entry-level, LAMS approved option. Don’t be fooled though, this bike is still expected to perform in line with KTM’s adventurous spirit.
The 373cc single cylinder engine puts out 32kW and 37Nm, which is LAMS friendly and is perfect for commuters who want to get adventurous on the weekend.
The bike carries a WP Apex 43 fork with 170mm travel and a WP Apex monoshock with 177mm travel. This is less than the 790 Adventure and considerably less than the 790 Adventure R, but it is still nothing to scoff at.
A four-piston radial fixed caliper and 320mm disc on the front and a single-piston floating caliper and 230mm disc on the rear provide stopping power. There is also Bosch ABS which includes cornering ABS and an offroad mode.
With a seat height of 855mm, the bike is quite tall and the ground clearance of 200mm should help the bikes offroad ability. A 14.5l fuel tank isn’t huge, but will still provide adequate range.
Best of all, KTM claims the bike only weighs 158kg, which is very light for a dual-sport bike of this nature.
While local pricing is still to be announced, the retail price for the bike in the US is $6,199USD.
There is currently no word on an R version, like the 790 Adventure R, 1090 Adventure R and 1290 Super Adventure R, but don't be surprised if its in the pipeline. An R version would add longer travel suspension among other things to make it more dirt-friendly.
The bikesales team is headed to Tenerife to put the new machine to the test. Stay tuned for the full review on bikesales.com.au in the coming weeks.
