KTM has unveiled two-stroke fuel injection technology, which will make its debut on selected enduro models in the 2018 model year.
The company's research and development department in Mattighofen, Austria has developed the technology, known as 'Transfer Port Injection' (TPI). The benefits are obvious -- drastically reduced fuel consumption, no more pre-mix fuel and jetting problems consigned to history – but more in-depth information such as the benefits of power delivery and rideability about TPI will follow in May at the international media launch.
“This is an incredibly exciting development for KTM. We have been developing two-stroke fuel injection for some time, and our goal was to create competitive motorcycles with all the benefits of fuel injection, while fitting into our READY TO RACE mantra," said Joachim Sauer, KTM Product Marketing Manager.
"There has been extensive testing and considerations for our Research and Development team to take into account during this process, so we are very motivated by this next step and world first in technology, as we take a major step forward in this segment."
At the press launch in May, KTM will unveil the 2018 250 EXC TPI and 300 EXC TPI, which will go on sale in Europe from June 2017.
No word yet on Australian availability.
