The new Kawasaki Z300 naked has gone on sale locally for $5999, available in metallic raw graystone and candy flat blazed green liveries.
The Z300 is the latest addition to the Z Series line-up, and is being used a as part of a double-pronged attack alongside the Ninja 300 to tempt entry-level riders. As well, Kawasaki will be keen to put the brakes on KTM’s 390 Duke naked, which is proving to be a popular model.
The Z300 will be the first smaller-capacity ‘Z’ naked to go on sale in Australia since the Z250 from 1980-1983, and a Z400 was also sold from 1978-1981. This new machine draws inspiration from the Z800 and Z1000, while using the same chassis and engine as the $6199 Ninja 300.
The Z300 has a fuel injected, eight-valve 296cc parallel twin engine with 39hp (29kW) and 27Nm, a steel tube frame, 37mm fork, Uni-Trak shock, petal discs and a 17-litre fuel tank. There’s also a wide handlebar and upright riding position to befit its naked status. Weight is 170kg, ad it has anti-lock braking.
As well as the $6995 390 Duke, the Honda CB300F ($5699) also belongs in the Z300 space, as well as the Benelli BN302 which is due for a February 2015 release.
