Australia's burgeoning adventure-bike scene has swelled yet again, with Kawasaki's Versys-X 300 recently going on sale throughout Team Green's national dealer network.
The LAMS-approved model is powered by a 296cc parallel-twin engine, the unit featuring a slipper clutch and hung from an all-new rigid backbone frame.
The new model rolls on a 19-inch/17-inch combo of wire-spoked rims shod with tubed, dual-purpose tyres, while the bike's slim mid-section, upright riding position and broad handlebars give the rider a high degree of control.
There's long-travel suspension to help soak up the bigger hits while a sizeable screen is said to offer excellent wind protection. Kawasaki says an extensive range of factory touring equipment and accessories are available for the model.
Available in Candy Lime Green/Metallic Carbon Grey or Metallic Graphite Grey/Flat Ebony, the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 retails for $6399 plus on-roads.
Things could be heating up in the lower-capacity adventure-bike scene; Kawasaki's Versys-X 300 may be the first 300cc model to dive into the Australian market, but Suzuki revealed a V-Strom 250 concept bike in China last year and BMW lifted the covers off its G 310 GS at last November's EICMA show in Milan.
The trend makes sense. Not everyone can afford to splash $30,000 on an adventure bike, and lower-capacity offerings are lighter and more manageable in the rough stuff, even if their luggage capacity is reduced and their blacktop touring is conducted at a more modest pace.
