Kawasaki to increase capacity in Malaysia

Up to 40,000 units per year within a three-year period, as the demand for motorcycles in Malaysia continues to soar
According to a report in the Business Times, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd Japan plans to increase its production capacity in Malaysia to 40,000 units within a three-year period. Kawasaki currently produces 15,000 units per year.
"This will enable us to capture the growing demand for motorcycles in Malaysia, one of our growing markets in Southeast Asia," its motorcycle and engine division president Hiroshi Takata at the launch of the new Kawasaki Z800 and upgraded Ninja 250 (Ninja 300 in Australia).
Kawasaki is looking to upgrade its plant in Glenmarie, Shah Alam to accommodate the increasing capacity.
Malaysia's total industry volume for motorcycles is expected to grow by more than 10 per cent this year to 600,000 units from 540,000 units in 2011.
