Kawasaki tech push for ZX-14

The Kawasaki ZX-14 has just undergone a mid-life upgrade aimed at improving rideability with the new KTRC traction control technology and more mid-range punch

Kawasaki is turning up the heat on its big-bore sports-bike rivals with an updated Ninja ZX-14. The refreshed model won't be dramatically different to look at, but all the new bits hidden out of sight under the fairings.

Like Kawasaki's other top-tier tourer and sports bikes, the new ZX-14 will be packaged with an suite of electronic riding aids, which have trickled down from the ZX-10R and GTR1400 models. These aids will include the K-ACT ABS braking system and KTRC traction control system, the latter of which should make the powerful bike a lot more manageable in challenging conditions.

The KTRC traction control system is one of the most advanced systems available for a motorcycle and rivals systems from Ducati, BMW and Aprilia.

Kawasaki has plans to progressively roll out its cutting-edge traction control systems across its sports bike range in the mid-term future, and scaled-down iterations of the software could even be integrated on entry-level models.

Other changes to the updated Kawasaki ZX-14 include a mild engine tweak, which is expected to deliver an increase in mid-range power delivery. It is not yet clear if the peak power output has been hiked.

At this stage we've received no word on when the new model will be arriving in Australia, but we'll update this page accordingly.
