Kawasaki isn't being smug when it says its all-new Vulcan 1700 Voyager is a full-dress tourer -- the first with the Voyager name since the Z1300 in the 1980s.
Set to appear on the Kawasaki stand at this week's Sydney Motorcycle Show alongside another newbie, the Vulcan 2000 Classic LT, the 1700 Voyager rumbles through a long-stroke 1700cc fuel-injected SOHC V-twin, complete with a six-speed transmission (including an overdrive) and belt final drive.
The engine also features Kawasaki's first fully electronic throttle valve system, and there's also K-ACT (Kawasaki Advanced Coactive-braking Technology) ABS.
Other features include:
- Cruise control
- Multi-function instrumentation and audio system (compatible for MP3 platers like the iPod)
- Large windscreen and cowling
- Leg shields
- 126 litres of storage in lockable top box and panniers
- Passenger backrest (with arm support) and footboards
- Dual fog lights
- LED taillight
There will be only one colour - metallic titanium/metallic diablo black.
The Vulcan 1700 Voyager, which Kawasaki hopes will really gain some traction in the States, will go on sale in Australia sometime in the first half of 2009, with price still to be determined.
