Kawasaki has turned back the clock with a series of new special edition models that celebrate 40 years of its renowned Ninja family of high-performance bikes – and they’re on sale in Australia now.
The Ninja dynasty can trace its roots back to the GPz900R of 1984 – a couple of years before Tom Cruise made the bike even more famous in the first Top Gun movie – and now Kawasaki is marking the occasion with 40th Anniversary editions of selected models from its modern-day Ninja line-up.
First revealed overseas last October, the milestone machines recently reached Aussie Kawasaki dealerships, and span the following models and prices.
• Ninja 650 40th Anniversary Edition ($11,409 plus ORC)
• Ninja ZX-6R 40th Anniversary Edition ($16,159 plus ORC)
• Ninja 1000SX 40th Anniversary Edition ($17,859 plus ORC)
• Ninja ZX-10R 40th Anniversary Edition ($27,110 plus ORC)
• Ninja ZX-14R SE 40th Anniversary Edition ($23,309 plus ORC)
Each model receives a purely cosmetic upgrade in the form of one of two heritage paint schemes – either the green, white and blue that harks back to Kawasaki’s ZXR750 of 1989, or the red and black of the Kawasaki GPz900R.
The models also score some graphics in a heritage font (the ‘Liquid Cooled’ on the side fairings of the red-and-black-liveried bikes, for example, referencing the GPz900R), and a 40th Anniversary tank decal.
The Ninja 40th Anniversary Edition models are available while stocks last and command a minor premium over the standard model’s pricing of around $300 to $500, depending on the model. See your nearest Kawasaki dealer for more information.
