Kawasaki has announced the arrival of two new affordable electric models in Australia.
The Kawasaki Ninja e-1 and Z e-1are both available in Australia for less than $12k, making them cheapest full-size EV models from a mainstream motorcycle brand in recent years.
Both machines are what Kawasaki says is the equivalent to a 125cc internal combustion engine motorcycle but are powered by air-cooled electric motors and dual removable lithium-ion battery packs.
According to Kawasaki the bikes are capable of 9kW and 40.5Nm, and will reach speeds of up to 101km/h depending on mode and spec.
Kawasaki told bikesales that the approximate riding range for the bikes is 65km. That puts them well and truly in the urban commuting category. A full battery charge is expected to take 3.7hrs per battery or 1.6 hours for a 20-80 per cent charge.
The electric pair comes with multiple ride modes, smartphone connectivity, an e-boost function, regenerative braking, and ABS, while each offers a unique look. The Ninja is a sportsbike-styled machine, while the Z is a naked bike. The Ninja weighs 140kg and the Z only 135kg, making both bikes extremely light for their class.
Kawasaki has priced the Ninja e-1 at $11,394 ride away, while the Z e-1 is priced at $11,086. Pricing will vary slightly based on location.
Meanwhile, the wait for Kawasaki’s hybrid motorcycles continues after the release of the Ninja 7 and Z7 were delayed last year due to “various circumstances”.
