Kawasaki 750cc

The ATV wars are hotting up. Later this year Kawasaki will launch what it claims to be the world's most powerful sport/utility ATV, the V-twin Brute Force 4x4i

Based on the KVF700, the new machine will be powered by a 749cc V-twin engine – the biggest in the business - delivering 37.4kW (51PS) at 6500rom and60.7Nm of torque at 5000rpm, enough grunt for a top speed of about 110km/h. The cylinders are offset at 90 degrees.

The transmission is a new 2WD/4WD electrically selectable unit designed to accommodate the high engine output. Kawasaki says the automatic power-drive system "enables quick shifts between high/low and reverse, thanks to a belt-type torque converter, while variable front differential control makes it easier to get the ATV moving when it's stick." The Brute Force is also Kawasaki's first ATV with independent rear suspension, in this instance a double-wishbone layout.

Among the new Kawasaki's many interesting features are these:

  • A 'vehicle down' sensor shuts off fuel supply if the ATV's attitude becomes extreme, or more than 65 degrees.
  • The engine can be started in any gear if the brake is applied.
  • Carriers hold 40kg up front and 80kg on the rear.
  • 12-volt accessory outlets are provided front and rear.
  • The Brute Force frame can handle a 1350kg (3000lb) winch.
  • A trailer hitch bracket is standard.
  • The option range includes an aluminium skid-plate, headlight guards, front CVJ guards and rack extension.
