Just what the Doctor ordered?

Valentino Rossi has confirmed he will return to for active duty at this weekends German MotoGP

The decision has been made. Nine-times world champion Valentino Rossi will return for this weekend's German MotoGP race at Sachsenring, despite breaking his leg just 42 days ago.

There has been concern that Rossi is attempting to come back from injury too early, and may re-injure his leg, in a similar situation that has seen WSBK and former MotoGP rider Chris Vermeulen sit out the rest of the 2010 season.

Rossi still cannot walk without crutches, as his broken leg is still weak and unable to carry his weight.

Nevertheless, Rossi is raring to go, hoping to claw back ground on teammate Jorge Lorenzo, who currently leads the MotoGP championship with 165 points, a whopping 52 point over second placed Dani Pedrosa.

Rossi is currently sitting in seventh place on 61 points, not far behind Casey Stoner on 67 points. Bear in mind however that only seven races have been run, with another 11 to go, and much can happen during the latter half of the season.

Having ridden the Yamaha YZR-M1 race in Italy yesterday, Rossi is confident of putting in a strong showing at the German GP.

The Italian rider had this to say: "I'm really excited that my doctors think I can ride this weekend. Tomorrow I will see the medical officer and then we will have the final decision.

"I felt good on the R1 but I know my M1 at the track is a different thing and it will be hard for me, but I miss my bike and my team and I want to try."

However Rossi does have a backup plan if the pain becomes too severe, with Wataru Yoshikawa the backup rider.

"I am really looking forward to seeing everyone and being back in the paddock; I was tired of being at home! Wataru (Yoshikawa) will be there as well so if there is a problem he will ride my bike again," added Rossi.

Can Rossi be competitive at the German MotoGP? All eyes will be on the Sachsenring to find out.
