The 11th edition of the Red Bull Romaniacs extreme enduro has begun in Romania, with KTM factory rider Jonny Walker the day one leader over Graham Jarvis (Husqvarna) and Paul Bolton (KTM) – a British trifecta.
The in-form Walker, winner of the 2014 Red Bull Hare Scramble at the legendary Erzbergrodeo in Austria at the beginning of June, is just over six minutes ahead of Jarvis with two days remaining, with Bolton another four minutes in arrears.
“I’m pretty satisfied with my rider today,” “Walker said. “I can’t complain about how things went for me. The track was relatively easy today but you have to be careful because there are always a lot of things that can go wrong.”
Germany’s Andreas Lettenbichler (KTM) and New Zealand’s Chris Birch (KTM) are running fourth and fifth, both Romaniacs veterans. Lettenbichler’s performance on day one was all the more impressive because he is riding with a spinal disc injury.
Some 350 riders from all over the world – including a number of Australians -- are contesting the 2014 edition of the Red Bull Romaniacs, a unique chance for riders with a range of skills to pit themselves against both the track and the best in the world.
