Kawasaki rider Mike Jones is the 2015 Australian superbike champion, wrapping up the title with a round to spare at Tasmania's Symmons Plains Raceway on Sunday, September 6.
Jones took advantage of a second race mishap from closest rival Daniel Falzon (Yamaha) to take both race wins at Symmons Plains, establishing an unassailable 60-point lead heading into the final round at Phillip Island from October 2-4.
“It's fantastic to get the Australian Superbike Championship. We’ve been strong all weekend, and full credit goes to the Australian Outdoor Living – Cube Racing Team, and all of the supporters who get basically get behind us and give me the quality equipment to do my job out there," said Jones.
“Winning the Australian Superbike Championship means a lot; it’s got a lot of meaning to it.
“There are only a handful of riders who can ride an Australian superbike to its full potential, and this sort of proves that I’m one of those riders, and it means a lot to me.
“We’ll see what opportunities become available throughout the year but we’ll be looking to try and come back and get that number one plate next year for sure.”
Continuing his year-long dominance, Jones was the clear pacesetter in Tasmania, and waltzed his way to round honours from Kiwi Ryan Hampton (BMW) and teammate Ben Henry.
In supersport, Brayden Elliott (Suzuki) was the victor from Kane Burns (Suzuki) and Aiden Coote (Yamaha).
