
Victorian premier Daniel Andrews has announced the appointment of John Harnden AM as Chairman of the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC).
Mr Harnden has over 25 years of involvement with Formula One and motorsport. He joined the AGPC board in 2006, became Deputy Chairman in March 2007 and succeeds Mr Ronald J Walker AC CBE, who stood down from the role in April this year.
A former AGPC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Harnden has built a reputation as a global leader in sport and major events, working as Chief Executive Officer of the International Cricket Council Cricket World Cup 2015, the South Australian Cricket Association, Village Roadshow International Theme Parks and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation.
"I would like to thank Premier Andrews and the Victorian Government for their confidence in me and look forward to working with everyone to ensure these great events continue to not only showcase and benefit the state of Victoria but also provide unforgettable experiences for the fans.
"The Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix have entertained fans over the past two decades.
"This appointment is a great honour and I am excited by the opportunity to be able to build upon the success that Ron and the team have achieved.
"I have been fortunate to have been involved in many global events. I passionately believe that Melbourne is the sporting capital of the world and want to ensure that Melbourne remains in pole position."
The 2015 Phillip Island MotoGP round will be held from October 16-18.
