Jett Lawrence confirms ACL is "cooked"

Eight-time AMA champion Jett Lawrence has torn his ACL and will have surgery immediately

Jett Lawrence will miss the remainder of the AMA Supercross series with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), prematurely ending his title defence.

The Australian gun suffered the injury on Sunday (AEDT) during the third race of the “Triple Crown” event in Glendale, Arizona.

Lawrence finished second in the first two races and was on track for the overall victory. But, just two corners into the third race, he dabbed his foot on the ground and immediately left the track, showing obvious signs of pain.

Honda team manager Lars Lindstrom said after the race that Lawrence had hyperextended his knee, and would have an MRI, but was hopeful that it was just a “stinger”, which is a short burst of nerve pain.

However, Lawrence confirmed the worst on Tuesday morning (AEDT) in an Instagram video, telling fans that his ACL is “cooked”.

“I’m going for surgery tomorrow at 11:30, gonna get that fixed up, and have four months, I think it is, to recover,” said Lawrence. “I was hoping the worst would be maybe bone bruising, but sadly not.”

Lawrence also said he had a tear in his meniscal cartilage and that he is hoping for a return in the AMA Pro Motocross series later this year.

The Honda rider won the Pro Motocross 450 title in 2023 as a rookie, winning every race, before winning the AMA Supercross 450 title in 2024, also as a rookie.

But he missed the majority of the 2024 Pro Motocross series with a broken thumb and has so far struggled to return to his dominant form.

Through the first five rounds of the 2025 season, Lawrence has only one overall race win to his name and has faced stiff competition from fellow champions Eli Tomac and Chase Sexton. Lawrence was also recently in the headlines with his brother Hunter, as they sacked manager Lucas Mirtl for allegedly mishandling their funds.

Sexton (KTM) now leads the AMA Supercross series after five rounds from Ken Roczen (Suzuki) and Tomac (Yamaha).
