Jett Lawrence claims first AMA Supercross title

The Australian youngster picked up the 250 East championship, while his brother Hunter fights for a title of his own in the West

Jett Lawrence clinched the 2022 AMA Supercross 250 East championship with one round to spare after a second-place finish in Foxbourough.

The Australian piloted his Honda CRF250R to a comfortable podium finish, earning enough points to put the title out of reach for his rivals. Austin Forker won the race by a narrow margin with RJ Hampshire rounding out the podium.

Lawrence’s championship victory comes after he claimed the AMA Pro Motocross 250cc title in 2021. His team, sponsors, family and friends helped him celebrate his first indoor title in style, with a post-race locker room party reminiscent of an NBA championship celebration.

The Queensland product has been a class above the rest in 2022, with podium finishes in all eight rounds to date, including four wins. His dominance comes after a nasty pre-season crash forced him to make a late minute swap from West to East.

Jett’s brother and teammate Hunter Lawrence is second in the 250 West standings with two races remaining. A title for the elder Lawrence would complete a rare double for the brothers.

Hunter will try to close the 23-point gap to Christian Craig at the penultimate West round in Denver on April 30, before he meets Jett in the East/West Showdown in Salt Lake City on May 8.

In the 450 class, Yamaha’s Eli Tomac had his points lead reduced to 43 by Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson. Tomac could only muster 7th place in Foxbourough, adding a touch of excitement to the title race ahead of the final two rounds.

Anderson’s win ahead of Chase Sexton and Marvin Musquin has seen him storm back into contention in what was previously a one-horse race. Only Tomac and Anderson can win it, with 3rd place Justin Barcia 66 points behind the leader.
